Garden Group (Junkyard Sculpters)
The YAAW Garden Group partnered with Toledo Grows and the TenEyck Community Garden located on 21st and Jefferson. The group's goal was to make the garden look more creative and beautiful for the residents who garden at TenEyck. The garden group was split into three smaller groups including the mini mural, sculpture, and bench groups. The mini mural group will be making two small murals out of items such as bottle caps, pop cans, and vinyl records. The sculpture group is making a sculpture that uses rain water to create sound and at the same time, water plants, creating a visually interesting piece. The Bench group is making a bench and mosaic art on a bird bath and stepping stones.

Poetry |
David Bush led YAAW apprentices in exploring poetry and spoken word performance. The poetry sessions were based on helping the apprentices express themselves, vent frustrations, and learn how to perform their poetry in front of an audience with confidence. Mr. Bush stressed the importance of things such as posture, tone of voice, and facial and body gestures. He encouraged the apprentices to practice multiple exercises on expression. Mr. Bush is guiding the apprentices toward submitting their poems for the Art in TARTA contest, where an artist's work is published on a TARTA bus for public display. |
